Our Certification:

GETQA offers two different types of certification: Silver and Gold.
A teacher is able to receive Silver or Gold Certification for either Academic or Skill-based instruction.
Silver and Gold Certification is applicable for teaching both children and adults.

What is Academic based instruction?
Academic based instruction is experience with teaching school subjects in English (e.g. Math, Science, English Langauge, etc.). Teachers are able to specify which subject they want certification for on the application form.
What is Skill-based instruction?
Skill-based instruction is experience with instruction in teachable skills in English (e.g. Sports, Music, Dance, etc.). Teachers are able to specify which skill they want certification for on the application form.
Silver Certification is the basic certification for all GETQA applicants. It is ideal for newer teachers as the hour requirements are lower. All requirements are listed below.
 
 
Academic and Skill Based
  • a university or post-secondary Bachelor's degree
  • a TESOL certificate or equivalent
  • 300 hours in class teaching experience (ROE or Equivalent) (in English) OR 1 professional reference
  • Criminal Record Check* for those outside of Canada OR
Working With Children
  • a university or post-secondary Bachelor's degree
  • a TESOL certificate or equivalent
  • 300 hours in class teaching experience (ROE or Equivalent) (in English) OR 1 professional reference OR
  • Online Global Business College Diploma OR Global College Business Program Diploma AND
  • Criminal Record Check
  • Personal Reference
**Global College Diploma holders can request a reference from Online Global Business College**
Gold Certification is geared towards teachers who have more education and experience in ESL. It demonstrates that a teacher has mastered or almost mastered the skill they want to teach. All requirements are listed below.

  • a TESOL certificate or equivalent
  • 1000 teaching hours in field of expertise (in English)
  • 1 professional reference
  • Criminal Record Check
Working With Children
  • a university or post-secondary Master's degree
  • a TESOL certificate or equivalent
  • 1000 teaching hours with children in field of expertise (in English)
  • 1 professional reference
  • 1 personal reference
  • Criminal Record Check
Certificate Specifications
How long is the GETQA Certificate valid for? View fees
  • Both the Silver and Gold Certificates are valid for 5 years. Applicants are able to apply for renewal.
What if I want to upgrade from a Silver to a Gold Certificate? View fees
  • All applicants are able to upgrade after paying applicable fees. After upgrading, the new certificate will be valid for 5 more years.
What if I lose my certificate? View fees
  • If an applicant loses their certificate, they can pay a Replacement Fee. No additional time will be added to the validity of their certification.
What if I make a mistake on my application? View fees
  • If you make a mistake on your application, please contact us as service@getqa.ca. We will explain to you how to resubmit.
Is there a delivery fee? View fees
  • Delivery fees are dependant of where the certificate is being sent. All details are on the fees page.
